Cobblemon Official Modpack Server Hosting

Cobblemon brings catchable, trainable creatures in the style of Pokémon to Minecraft, and the official modpack from its makers keeps everything around it light. It is one of the few packs here that a small group can run on a small plan. What decides the size is how many creatures your world keeps alive at once.

What Cobblemon Is

Cobblemon Official Modpack by Cobbled Studios: Minecraft 1.21.1 on Fabric, 73 mods in the newest release.

The Cobblemon Official Modpack comes from Cobbled Studios, the team behind the Cobblemon mod itself, and runs on Fabric for Minecraft 1.21.1. It is the mod with a set of quality of life and performance mods around it rather than a large pack: 73 mods in total, and 30 of those only matter on a player's computer, mostly graphics and menu mods.

That leaves 43 mods on the server, and most of the work comes from one of them. Cobblemon spawns its creatures around every player, gives each one its own movement and battle logic, and keeps party and storage data for everybody who has played. Lithium, Krypton and FerriteCore are in the pack to keep the rest of the server lean.

How Much RAM a Cobblemon Server Needs

Less than almost any other modpack. With 43 mods on the server, our figure for up to three players is 3 GB, and the weight grows mostly with the number of creatures in loaded chunks. Each player carries a ring of spawns around them, so ten people spread over the map means ten separate crowds for the server to move and think for.

What adds up over the months is everything players leave behind: creatures sent out and left standing in a base, pastures full of them, and the saved data of every trainer. A server meant for a growing community should plan for that from the start. The 8 GB page shows what fits one size up.

The Pack, the Mod, or Pixelmon

Cobblemon began as a mod, and the official pack is only one way to play it. Some groups run the bare mod on a Fabric server with Fabric API next to it and nothing else, which is lighter still; others add Cobblemon to a pack they already like. Either works, as long as every player has the same Cobblemon version as the server, because a mismatch keeps them from joining.

If your group is choosing between the two creature mods: Pixelmon runs on Forge and has its own look and rules, while Cobblemon was built for Fabric, with a NeoForge version of the mod as well, and keeps to Minecraft's own blocky style for its models. The two do not run together on one server.

Setting Up Cobblemon on Our Panel

  1. Back up what is there now

If the server already holds a world, make a backup on the Backups tab. The installer moves an old mods folder aside under a dated name instead of deleting it. A server on Paper or vanilla goes to Fabric on the Settings tab first, because the Mods tab only shows on a server with a mod loader.

  2. Search for Cobblemon on the Mods tab

Type the name and pick the Cobblemon Official Modpack entry from CurseForge.

  3. Choose version 1.8.1, or the one your group runs

Take the exact version your players installed. Two releases can differ by a few mods, and a player whose list does not match the server's is turned away at the door.

  4. Install it in one go

The machine fetches the pack itself and switches the server to Fabric 0.19.5 for Minecraft 1.21.1. The server pack the makers put out carries the configs, so the server starts with the same settings your players have.

  5. Start it and wait for Done

The first start loads 43 mods and builds the spawn area, which takes a few minutes. When the console prints Done, players join with the address from the panel.

Packs Close to Cobblemon

For the Forge side of the same idea, see Pixelmon. Groups who want another light pack with a different theme often look at Homestead for cozy building or Cottage Witch for a little magic, and Better OneBlock is another Fabric pack on 1.21.1.

Questions About Cobblemon Servers

Can I run Cobblemon on the smallest plan?

For two or three players, yes: our figure is 3 GB, and a 4 GB plan leaves a gigabyte of room above it. Once more people play at the same time, or your world fills up with pastures, move one size up.

Do players need the same modpack to join?

Yes. Everyone installs the Cobblemon Official Modpack in the same version as the server, for example through the CurseForge app. Shaders and other graphics mods are up to each player, but anything that adds creatures, items or blocks has to match.

Can Bedrock players join a Cobblemon server?

No. Cobblemon needs its mod on the player's own computer to show its creatures, and Bedrock Edition cannot load Java mods. The tools that let Bedrock players into a Java server only work for servers without content like this.

Which Minecraft version does the Cobblemon pack use?

Release 1.8.1 of the pack runs on Minecraft 1.21.1 with Fabric Loader 0.19.5. When the team moves the pack to a newer Minecraft version, take a backup before you update, because a world opened on a newer version does not go back.
