Fear Nightfall Server Hosting

Fear Nightfall: Remains of Chaos is a horror modpack from Luna Pixel Studios, made for playing together: a campaign, a sanity meter and creatures you would rather not meet in a cave. It runs on Forge 1.20.1 and is easier on a server than it is on the nerves.

What Fear Nightfall Is

The Fear Nightfall modpack logo
Fear Nightfall by Luna Pixel Studios: Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge, 273 mods in the newest release.

The pack has 273 mods, and 31 of those never touch the server. Cave Dweller stalks players underground, Born in Chaos and The Graveyard fill the night, Sanity: Descent Into Madness tracks how much a player's mind can take, and The Hordes sends waves at your shelter. Sleepy Hollows and Mutant Monsters round out the cast.

A quest line carries the campaign, and Immersive Engineering and Hexerei give the survivors tools to fight back. The world comes from the YUNG's structures and Regions Unexplored, and a few of the pack's mods are loaded through Sinytra Connector, which lets Fabric mods run on Forge.

How Much RAM a Fear Nightfall Server Needs

Plan 6 GB for a duo or trio, 8 GB for a mid sized group and 10 GB when nine or more share the world. The pack is built for co-op in small numbers, so most servers sit in the first two rows. Nights are the busy part: the horde and everything that spawns in the dark is where the server spends its effort.

The pack includes Better Chunk Loading, ServerCore and spark, so the tools are at hand when a night gets heavy. A spark profile from the console during a horde shows exactly which creature costs the most.

Keep the Group Close

Fear Nightfall is made for co-op, and its campaign assumes the group faces it together. On a server that also keeps the load down: a group that sticks together shares one set of loaded chunks and one crowd of monsters, where scattered players each pull their own.

Open Parties and Claims is in the pack for parties and protected land. Set up a party at the start, so that shared doors, chests and beds work for everyone in the group.

Setting Up Fear Nightfall on Our Panel

  1. Back up what is there now

If the server already holds a world, make a backup on the Backups tab. The installer moves an old mods folder aside under a dated name instead of deleting it. A server on Paper or vanilla goes to Forge on the Settings tab first, because the Mods tab only shows on a server with a mod loader.

  2. Search for Fear Nightfall on the Mods tab

Type the name and pick the Fear Nightfall entry from CurseForge.

  3. Choose version 1.1.4, or the one your group runs

Take the exact version your players installed. Two releases can differ by a few mods, and a player whose list does not match the server's is turned away at the door.

  4. Install it in one go

The machine fetches the pack itself and switches the server to Forge 47.4.8 for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Java 17. The server pack the makers put out carries the configs, so the server starts with the same settings your players have.

  5. Start it and wait for Done

The first start loads 242 mods and builds the spawn area, which takes a few minutes. When the console prints Done, players join with the address from the panel.

Questions About Fear Nightfall Servers

How much RAM does a Fear Nightfall server need?

6 GB covers up to three players, 8 GB a group of four to eight, and 10 GB anything bigger. Most co-op groups are small, so the first two rows cover them.

Is Fear Nightfall meant for multiplayer?

Yes. The makers built it for co-op, and the campaign works best with a few friends facing the nights together on one server.

Why does a Forge pack have Fabric mods in it?

A few mods in the pack only exist for Fabric, and Sinytra Connector loads them on Forge. The server pack brings that along, so there is nothing to set up; it is also why Fabric API shows up in the mod list.

Does Fear Nightfall have a server pack?

Version 1.1.4 includes one, with Sinytra Connector and its Fabric mods already in place. The installer unpacks it as it is and sets Forge 47.4.8.
