Germany is the region we run by default, and the only one where the location adds nothing to your monthly price. That is not a discount we invented for the page: it is the address the order form falls back on when you do not pick anything, so the plan price and the German price are the same number.
Who sits close to Germany (EU)
Central Europe, and a lot of it. Players in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Poland and the Czech Republic are all within a short hop, and France, Italy and the Nordics are not much further. If your community is spread across Europe rather than clustered in one country, this is the location that treats everyone roughly the same.

Communities with players in more than one European country
A Dutch and German mix, or a server where half the players speak English and turn up from anywhere between Dublin and Warsaw. Putting it in the middle is fairer than putting it next to the largest group.
Anyone who wants their data to stay inside the EU
Server data stays in the European Union here, which matters if your community keeps player records, has a paying membership, or simply prefers it that way.
People who do not want to think about it
Skip the region question at checkout and this is what you get. There is no penalty for that: it is the cheapest of the nine and the busiest of the nine.

When another region is the better answer
If more than half your players are British, the United Kingdom region is closer to them and costs a small amount extra. If they are American, do not host in Germany to save the surcharge: the ocean costs far more than the money does.

Questions about the German region
Why does the German location cost nothing extra?
Because it is the region the plan price is built around: pick Germany and you pay the plan price and nothing else. The other eight carry a surcharge, and the amount is on the page of that region.
Does my server data stay in the EU?
Yes. A server ordered in this region runs in the European Union and its world files, backups and logs stay there.
Can I move my server here later?
Yes, and your world moves with you. Ask us and we move it; you keep your address, so nobody has to be told anything.
Do backups of a German server also stay in the EU?
Yes. A backup is written in the same region as the server it belongs to, so nothing leaves the European Union because you pressed the backup button.
Which plan should I take in this region?
The same one you would take anywhere else: the region decides where your server sits, not what runs on it. Because Germany adds nothing to the price, the table above is also the cheapest version of every plan we sell.
