India is a region we run because Indian servers are usually hosted somewhere else, and it shows. It is the closest location we have to the subcontinent by a wide margin, and it carries a smaller surcharge than either of our other two Asian regions.
Who sits close to Asia (India)
India itself, and the countries around it: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan are all far nearer to this region than to anything else we run. Southeast Asia is better off in Singapore, and the Gulf is roughly a tie between the two.

When another region is the better answer
For a community spread across southeast Asia rather than the subcontinent, Singapore is closer to more of them. For a mixed Indian and European group, our German region is the compromise, and it costs nothing on top of the plan.

Why is India cheaper than Japan or Singapore?
Because its surcharge is lower, and it is the lowest of our three Asian regions. The amount is in the table on this page and it is the same for every plan.
Is it a good region for Pakistan, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka?
Yes. It is by far the closest region we run to all three.
Can I move an existing server here?
Yes, world and settings included, and your address stays as it is.
What about players in the Gulf states?
This region and our German one are roughly a tie for the Gulf, which means the deciding factor is where the rest of your community sits rather than the map.
Is this region suitable for Bedrock players on phones?
Yes, and it matters more there than on a computer: a phone on mobile data has the least room to spare, so taking a continent out of the journey helps it most.
