Starter Performance Plan
Starter Performance is the same eight gigabytes as Starter, on a machine where one core is faster. That distinction sounds academic until you watch a modpack tick: Minecraft runs its world on a single thread, so a server with memory to spare can still fall behind because one core cannot finish the work inside fifty milliseconds. This is the cheapest way to buy out of that problem instead of buying memory you already have enough of.

Why more memory would not have fixed this
Starter Performance has the same 8 GB and the same 4 vCPU as plain Starter. Nothing about the size changed. What changed is the machine it sits on, and that only matters because of one detail in how Minecraft works: the world runs on a single thread. Every mob, every hopper, every piece of redstone and every chunk that has to be generated is handled one after another, inside a budget of fifty milliseconds. Miss that budget and the tick rate drops, no matter how much memory is still free.
That is why a server can show plenty of spare memory and plenty of spare processor in a panel and still feel broken. The panel measures all cores together. Minecraft is using one of them, and it is that one core that ran out of time.
Where you notice it first
Chunk generation. Flying out into unexplored terrain is the heaviest thing a small server does, because the game has to invent the world under you while you move over it. On a slower core you fly into grey, wait, and see the ground appear behind you. That is the exact moment this plan buys back.
The second place is the first hour of a fresh modpack world, when every dimension the pack adds generates for the first time. It is a one-off, it is unavoidable, and it is much shorter here.
What it costs against plain Starter
Starter is EUR 8.79 a month on a twenty-four month term. Starter Performance is EUR 17.59, so the line costs EUR 8.80 a month more for the same memory. The disk is 75 GB NVMe and the network port is 500 Mbit/s Port.
That difference is what the faster machine costs us plus our margin. It is not a premium tier with the same hardware and a different label, which is the thing worth checking anywhere you buy this.
The arithmetic behind a stutter
A player at the default view distance keeps a square of chunks loaded around them, and every chunk in that square is ticked. Two players standing together share most of that square. Two players walking away from each other do not, and the cost roughly doubles. That is why "how many players" is a bad way to size a server and "what are they doing" is a good one.
On 4 vCPU with 8 GB the memory holds all of it without complaint. The tick does not. Five people exploring in five directions is a heavier server than twenty people standing in a town, and it is the exact case where the faster core shows up as the ground being there when you land on it.
If you want to check before you spend anything: run the performance check in the panel on the server you have now. If it reports MSPT near the fifty millisecond line while memory sits at half, the core is what is short, and this line is the fix. If memory is the number that is full, buy the next size instead.
What else that money buys
Worth doing the sum before you order. Starter Performance is EUR 17.59 a month on the twenty-four month term. Plain Standard is EUR 13.59, which is less money for 12 GB instead of 8 GB. On paper that looks like the obvious call.
It is the right call for a server that keeps filling its memory: more plugins, more players standing around, a bigger view distance. It is the wrong call for a server that has memory to spare and still drops ticks, because four extra gigabytes do nothing for a core that is already out of time.
The honest test is the one in the panel. Memory near full means buy size. Memory half empty with a high tick time means buy speed. Both answers are cheaper than buying the wrong one twice.
The server this was built for
Six friends, a mid-sized pack, one of them always off exploring while the others build. Nobody is standing still, so the loaded area is spread out rather than stacked, and the tick has to cover all of it every time.
That server does not need more than 8 GB. It has needed more than a shared core since the day the pack was installed, and until now the only way to buy that from us was to buy memory you were never going to use.
