Open a port on your Minecraft server

By Astroworld Hosting

A Minecraft server listens on one port for players. Some plugins need a second one: Simple Voice Chat and Plasmo Voice send voice over UDP, BlueMap, Dynmap and squaremap serve a web map, and server lists read your player count through query. On servers in Poland the panel has a Ports tab for this. You open the port yourself, it costs nothing extra, and traffic on it reaches only your server.

Configure your serverPick a plan and order your server.

How to open a port for a plugin

  1. Open the Ports tab

Open the panel of your server and click Ports in the menu. Only the owner of the server sees this tab. Staff you invited do not, whatever their rights, so nobody else can open a way into your server.

  2. Click Add a port and pick what it is for

Under What is it for?, choose Simple Voice Chat, Plasmo Voice, Web page, Bedrock (Geyser), Server list query, RCON or Something else. The choice fills in the protocol: TCP, UDP or both. Give the port a name you will recognise, such as Voice chat or BlueMap.

  3. Leave the number on Auto, or choose one

Auto takes the next free number. Choose lets you type one between 30001 and 30999. A number you used before stays yours and comes back first.

  4. Choose who may connect

Everyone, or Only these addresses with up to 20 IPv4 addresses or ranges. Pick the flood protection per address as well; both are explained further down.

  5. Click Open port

The panel confirms which public number is open on your address and which server port your plugin has to listen on, for example 30012 on yourname.mc.astroworldmc.com and 25612 inside the server. A server can have 10 ports.

Set the plugin to the new port and restart

A new port shows a Next step box. The plugin has to listen on the server port the panel shows, and the server has to restart once before the port works. For three templates the panel writes the number for you.

What the Next step box offers per template
What it is forWhere the setting goes
Simple Voice ChatSet it for mevoicechat-server.properties: the port, and the voice host so players connect to the right address
Bedrock (Geyser)Set it for meGeyser config.yml: bedrock → port
Server list querySet it for meserver.properties: enable-query=true and query.port
Plasmo VoiceSet in pluginPlasmo Voice config.toml: the port under [host]
RCONSet in pluginserver.properties: enable-rcon=true, rcon.port and rcon.password
Web page or something elseSet in pluginThe plugin's own config, for example the port of the BlueMap or Dynmap web server

Set it for me writes the number into the file and keeps a copy of the old file next to it, ending in .voor-poort. The plugin has to have run once, so its settings file exists. For the others, open the file in the Files tab or over SFTP, put in the server port, save it and restart.

Players never type the server port. They use your address with the public number, or for voice chat nothing at all, because the mod reads the voice host from the server.

Test whether the port is open

After the restart, press Test on the port. The panel checks it twice: from our network straight to your server, and from the internet through your play address, the way a player comes in. For Bedrock (Geyser) and Server list query it also checks that the answer comes from the right program.

What the port test can tell you
ResultWhat it means
Reachable from the internetThe port works from outside, through your play address.
Your server accepts connectionsThe plugin listens on the right server port.
No reply on a UDP portVoice chat and other UDP programs often stay silent to a test packet. Nothing refused it, so this is fine.
The address works, but your server refusedThe server runs, but nothing listens on the server port. Check the port in the plugin's config, then restart.
No answer from your server in timeThe server is off or still starting, or it has not been restarted since you added the port.

Who may connect, and flood protection per address

Everyone lets every address in, which is what voice chat, a web map and Geyser need. Only these addresses lets in a list of up to 20 IPv4 addresses or ranges, one per line, and Add my address puts the address you are on into the list. RCON only opens with such a list.

Flood protection per address limits how hard one address can hit the port. Network default keeps the limits our network already puts on every address. Strict allows one address at most 300 UDP packets per second, 20 new TCP connections per minute and 8 TCP connections at once. Custom lets you set each of those three numbers yourself.

A crossplay server already has a Bedrock port, listed under Other addresses of this server. You only need the Bedrock template for a second Geyser. Setting up crossplay covers the normal route.

Turn a port off, change it or delete it

Turn off closes the port at once and keeps its number; Turn on opens it again with the same number. Change edits the name, the protocol, who may connect and the flood limit. Delete removes the port, and its number stays reserved for your server and comes back first for a next port. History lists every change with the time and whether it worked.

Apply all ports again sets every port on our network and on the machine again, exactly as listed. Use it when a port that should work stays closed. Traffic on a port reaches your server only through our network, and other customers' ports never touch yours.

Questions about opening ports on your server

Does opening a port cost extra?

No. Up to 10 ports per server are part of the plan, with nothing to order.

Why do I not see the Ports tab?

Two reasons. The tab is only on servers in Poland, and only the owner of the server sees it, not staff who were invited. On a server in another location, ask support for the port you need.

How do I open a port for Simple Voice Chat?

Open Ports, click Add a port, pick Simple Voice Chat and click Open port. Then click Set it for me, restart the server once and press Test. Players do not type the port; the mod reads the voice host from the server.

Can I change the port players join on?

No, the panel manages that one. Java players type only your address, such as yourname.mc.astroworldmc.com, with no port behind it. Extra ports are for plugins.

Can I open RCON to everyone?

No. RCON is a full admin console behind one password, so the panel only opens it with a list of addresses. Add the address of the computer or bot that uses it and nothing else.

Where to find it

The Ports tab is in your own server panel on servers in Poland, on every plan, with nothing to order. On a server in another location, ask support for the port a plugin needs.

The limits on this page, 10 ports, the range 30001 to 30999, 20 addresses and the Strict flood numbers, are the ones the panel enforces. Checked against a test port on a Paper server, 27 October 2026.
