Beyond Depth Server Hosting

Beyond Depth is a challenging exploration pack by blueversal: new places to reach, tough bosses, sharper combat and a world that keeps going. It runs on Forge 1.20.1, updates often, and with 414 mods on the server it needs a solid machine.

What Beyond Depth Is

The Beyond Depth modpack logo
Beyond Depth by blueversal: Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge, 478 mods in the newest release.

Beyond Depth has 478 mods, 64 of which only matter to players. Alex's Caves, the Undergarden and Deeper and Darker open up new places below ground, Incendium and Bygone Nether rebuild the Nether, and Better End Cities and the YUNG's series rework the structures you find along the way. Better Combat changes how fights feel.

The bosses come from L_Ender's Cataclysm, Mowzie's Mobs and Bosses of Mass Destruction, and Aquamirae adds frozen seas to sail. Create is included for players who want to build between expeditions.

How Much RAM a Beyond Depth Server Needs

Plan 8 GB for a duo or trio, 10 GB for a mid sized group and 14 GB when nine or more share the world. With 414 mods on the server the base load is high, and the pack is made for exploring, so new chunks with heavy structure generation stay part of play instead of settling down after the first week.

Pregenerating helps a lot. Beyond Depth does not ship Chunky, but the World tab in our panel adds it and fills the area around spawn for you; start with 2,000 blocks and let it finish before your group logs in.

No Server Pack, So Copy the Configs

Beyond Depth does not publish a server pack with its releases. Our installer still sets it up: it downloads the 414 server side mods on the machine and switches the server to Forge 47.4.22. What it cannot bring along are the pack's own settings, which live in the config folder of the pack your players install.

So after installing, open the pack on your own computer, take the config folder, and the defaultconfigs folder next to it, and upload both in the file manager before the first start. Without them the mods run on their default settings, and the game plays differently from what your players expect.

Setting Up Beyond Depth on Our Panel

  1. Back up what is there now

If the server already holds a world, make a backup on the Backups tab. The installer moves an old mods folder aside under a dated name instead of deleting it. A server on Paper or vanilla goes to Forge on the Settings tab first, because the Mods tab only shows on a server with a mod loader.

  2. Search for Beyond Depth on the Mods tab

Type the name and pick the Beyond Depth entry from CurseForge.

  3. Choose version 12.8.3, or the one your group runs

Take the exact version your players installed. Two releases can differ by a few mods, and a player whose list does not match the server's is turned away at the door.

  4. Install, then copy the config folder

This release has no server pack, so the installer places the 414 server side mods and sets Forge 47.4.22 for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Java 17. The configs do not come along: upload the config folder from your own install in the file manager before the first start.

  5. Start it and wait for Done

The first start loads 414 mods and builds the spawn area, which takes a few minutes. When the console prints Done, players join with the address from the panel.

Questions About Beyond Depth Servers

How much RAM does a Beyond Depth server need?

8 GB covers up to three players, 10 GB a group of four to eight, and 14 GB anything bigger. It is an exploration pack, so pregenerating the area around spawn does as much for smooth play as the memory does.

Why does the installer say the configs do not come along?

Because Beyond Depth has no server pack. The installer places every server side mod but not the pack's settings. Upload the config and defaultconfigs folders from your own install before the first start.

Does Beyond Depth update often?

Yes. The release we counted, 12.8.3, came out on 24 September 2026, with several before it in the weeks leading up. Keep the server on the version your players have and update together, after a backup.

Do I have to add Chunky to Beyond Depth myself?

No. The World tab in the panel installs Chunky and runs the pregeneration for you. You choose the radius and the panel does the rest.
