FTB Skies Server Hosting

Feed The Beast built FTB Skies as its own version of skyblock: you start on a floating island with almost nothing and build a full tech and magic base from there. FTB Skies 2 moved the idea to Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, and the original stays on Forge 1.19.2.

What FTB Skies Is

FTB Skies by Feed The Beast: Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, 433 mods in the newest release.

FTB Skies 2 has 433 mods, 30 of them for players only. It borrows the big names of 1.21.1, among them Mekanism, Create, Applied Energistics 2, Ender IO, Modern Industrialization and Ars Nouveau, and routes them through skyblock recipes: Bonsai Trees for wood, Create Sifter for ores, and Productive Bees for much of the rest. FTB Team Bases gives each team a base of its own.

The original FTB Skies, on Forge 1.19.2, has 325 mods and a different mix, with Botania, Hex Casting and Ad Astra. The two are separate packs with separate worlds.

How Much RAM an FTB Skies Server Needs

Less at the start than any other pack of this size, because a skyblock world is mostly empty sky. There are no oceans or forests to generate, only islands. We start a group of three at 6 GB and a group of nine or more at 11 GB, and the number follows your production rather than your exploring.

Skyblock bases also pack everything into a few chunks, which is easy for the server to load and hard for it to run once they are full. Sieves, hives and machine lines stacked into a small space all tick together, and team bases that stay loaded while nobody plays keep producing and keep costing.

One Base Per Team on a Shared Server

With FTB Team Bases, every team gets its own base, so one server can hold several groups without anyone sharing a start. Players who want to share an island should be in the same team, so settle the teams before anyone starts building.

Feed The Beast's own backup mod is part of Skies 2 as well. It saves inside the server folder, next to the nightly backups every plan gets from us, so check your disk use after a few weeks and trim the pack's copies if they pile up.

Setting Up FTB Skies on Our Panel

  1. Back up what is there now

If the server already holds a world, make a backup on the Backups tab. The installer moves an old mods folder aside under a dated name instead of deleting it. A server on Paper or vanilla goes to NeoForge on the Settings tab first, because the Mods tab only shows on a server with a mod loader.

  2. Search for FTB Skies on the Mods tab

Type the name and pick the FTB Skies 2 entry from CurseForge. FTB Skies is listed next to it as a separate pack, so check the name before you click.

  3. Choose version 1.23.0, or the one your group runs

Take the exact version your players installed. Two releases can differ by a few mods, and a player whose list does not match the server's is turned away at the door.

  4. Install it in one go

The machine fetches the pack itself and switches the server to NeoForge 21.1.250 for Minecraft 1.21.1. The server pack the makers put out carries the configs, so the server starts with the same settings your players have.

  5. Start it and wait for Done

The first start loads 403 mods and builds the spawn area, which takes a few minutes. When the console prints Done, players join with the address from the panel.

Packs Close to FTB Skies

SkyFactory is the classic skyblock series, and FTB StoneBlock 4 and FTB OceanBlock 2 are the same team's packs set underground and at sea. Better OneBlock starts from a single block instead of an island.

Questions About FTB Skies Servers

FTB Skies or FTB Skies 2?

FTB Skies 2 is the current one, on NeoForge 1.21.1 with 433 mods and a release from September 2026. The original FTB Skies stays on Forge 1.19.2. Pick the one your players already have, because a world from one does not open in the other.

How much RAM does FTB Skies 2 need?

Plan 6 GB for a duo or trio, 8 GB for a mid sized group and 11 GB when nine or more share the world. A skyblock world is cheap to generate, so the number rises with the size of your production lines, not with how far anyone travels.

Can two teams have their own island on one server?

Yes. FTB Team Bases gives every team a base of its own, so several groups can play on one server without sharing a start.

Should I pregenerate the world for FTB Skies?

It is not worth it here. A skyblock world has almost nothing to generate, unlike an exploration pack, so the island is ready when the server first prints Done.
