SevTech: Ages Server Hosting

SevTech: Ages locks Minecraft's mods behind ages. You start with primitive tools and a crude way to make fire, and each age you complete unlocks the next set of mods, until the last one takes you off the planet. darkosto's pack runs on Forge 1.12.2, and Ages of the Sky plays the same journey on a skyblock.

What SevTech Is

The SevTech: Ages modpack logo
SevTech: Ages by darkosto: Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge, 254 mods in the newest release.

SevTech: Ages has 254 mods, only seven of them for players alone. Game Stages, Item Stages and Dimension Stages decide what exists for you at any moment, so a block from a later age stays hidden until you reach it. The early ages lean on Primal Tech, Tinkers' Construct and Better With Mods, the later ones on Astral Sorcery, Blood Magic, Immersive Engineering, Actually Additions, Mekanism and Applied Energistics 2.

Triumph replaces the vanilla advancements with the pack's own, and they are how you move from one age to the next. SevTech: Ages of the Sky uses the same stages but starts in the void; the two are separate packs with separate worlds.

How Much RAM a SevTech Server Needs

SevTech is older and leaner than modern packs of the same size. Minecraft 1.12.2 uses less memory per mod than recent versions, and FoamFix is included to trim that further. 5 GB covers up to three players, 7 GB a group of four to eight, and 9 GB anything bigger.

In the early ages almost nothing runs on its own and the server is quiet. The load arrives with the industrial ages, when Mekanism and Immersive Engineering lines start working around the clock. The server runs on Java 8, which the panel sets for Minecraft 1.12.2.

Ages on a Server, Player by Player

Game Stages keep track of what each player has unlocked, which is why in SevTech a friend who is an age behind may not be able to use the machines you already built. Groups that want to share everything usually move through the ages together.

The pack is finished: release 3.2.3 from December 2021 is the last, so a server set up today stays exactly as it is. That suits a long running world, and it means a guide or video from years ago still matches what your group sees.

Setting Up SevTech on Our Panel

  1. Back up what is there now

If the server already holds a world, make a backup on the Backups tab. The installer moves an old mods folder aside under a dated name instead of deleting it. A server on Paper or vanilla goes to Forge on the Settings tab first, because the Mods tab only shows on a server with a mod loader.

  2. Search for SevTech on the Mods tab

Type the name and pick the SevTech: Ages entry from CurseForge. SevTech: Ages of the Sky is listed next to it as a separate pack, so check the name before you click.

  3. Choose version 3.2.3, or the one your group runs

Take the exact version your players installed. Two releases can differ by a few mods, and a player whose list does not match the server's is turned away at the door.

  4. Install it in one go

The machine fetches the pack itself and switches the server to Forge 14.23.5.2860 for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Java 8. The server pack the makers put out carries the configs, so the server starts with the same settings your players have.

  5. Start it and wait for Done

The first start loads 247 mods and builds the spawn area, which takes a few minutes. When the console prints Done, players join with the address from the panel.

Packs Close to SevTech

SkyFactory 4 comes from the same maker on the same Minecraft version. Project Ozone 3 and RLCraft Dregora are other 1.12.2 packs still played on servers, and Monifactory is a modern pack with a tightly staged route of its own.

Questions About SevTech Servers

SevTech: Ages or Ages of the Sky?

Ages is the original, starting on normal land. Ages of the Sky uses the same ages and stages but starts in the void as a skyblock. Both are on Forge 1.12.2 in release 3.2.3, and each has its own server pack.

How much RAM does a SevTech server need?

For two or three friends we plan 5 GB; at four to eight players it is 7 GB, and past that 9 GB. The early ages ask little; the industrial ages are where the server starts to work.

Why can one player not see a block that others can?

Because stages are unlocked per player. Until a player reaches the age a block belongs to, it stays hidden or unusable for them, even on a shared server where others already have it.

Does SevTech run on Java 8?

Yes. Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge 14.23.5.2860 runs on Java 8, and the panel switches the server to it when you install the pack.
