Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2 Server Hosting
Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2 is an exploration pack with character levels, dangerous dungeons and a long list of dimensions to reach. dreams01 built it on Forge 1.16.5, and its successor, RAD3, moves to Minecraft 1.20.1 in early releases.
What RAD2 Is

RAD2 has 284 mods, only eight of them for players alone. Project MMO gives your character skills that grow as you use them, while Champions, Improved Mobs and Majrusz's Progressive Difficulty make the world tougher as you go. Dungeons Enhanced, YUNG's Better Dungeons and Dimensional Dungeons put something worth looting behind every hill.
The dimensions are what many players remember: the Twilight Forest, Blue Skies, the Undergarden, Tropicraft, Atum and Better End, each with creatures and loot of their own. RAD3 on 1.20.1 has 384 mods and a newer set, with Passive Skill Tree for character growth and the Aether joined by Deep Aether and Ancient Aether.

How Much RAM a RAD2 Server Needs
A small group runs on 6 GB, four to eight players want 8 GB, and sixteen are comfortable with 10 GB. RAD2 is an explorer's pack, so the load follows how far and how widely your group travels: every new dimension and every new stretch of land is fresh work for the server.
Minecraft 1.16.5 runs on Java 8, which the panel sets when it installs RAD2; RAD3 on 1.20.1 runs on Java 17. RAD2 also includes FTB Backups, which keeps its own copies next to our nightly backups.
| Group | Memory | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 3 players | 6 GB | Starter (8 GB) |
| 4 to 8 players | 8 GB | Standard (12 GB) |
| 9 to 16 players | 10 GB | Standard (12 GB) |
A World That Gets Tougher as You Go
RAD2 raises its danger as your group progresses. Champions turns some creatures into elites with extra abilities, Improved Mobs makes ordinary ones smarter, and Progressive Difficulty ramps the world up as you advance. A player who races ahead alone can end up somewhere the rest of the group is not ready for.
Claim Chunk is included, so players can protect a base from each other, and Waystones make it easier to regroup after everyone has scattered across different dimensions.
Setting Up RAD2 on Our Panel
Back up what is there now
If the server already holds a world, make a backup on the Backups tab. The installer moves an old mods folder aside under a dated name instead of deleting it. A server on Paper or vanilla goes to Forge on the Settings tab first, because the Mods tab only shows on a server with a mod loader.
Search for RAD2 on the Mods tab
Type the name and pick the RAD2 entry from CurseForge. RAD3 is listed next to it as a separate pack, so check the name before you click.
Choose version 1.17, or the one your group runs
Take the exact version your players installed. Two releases can differ by a few mods, and a player whose list does not match the server's is turned away at the door.
Install it in one go
The machine fetches the pack itself and switches the server to Forge 36.2.39 for Minecraft 1.16.5 on Java 8. The server pack the makers put out carries the configs, so the server starts with the same settings your players have.
Start it and wait for Done
The first start loads 276 mods and builds the spawn area, which takes a few minutes. When the console prints Done, players join with the address from the panel.
Rather not do it yourself? With free setup we install RAD2 for you after you order.
Packs Close to RAD2
Beyond Depth is the modern pack with the same love for exploring, DawnCraft adds souls-like combat, and RLCraft and RLCraft Dregora are harsher still.
Questions About RAD2 Servers
RAD2 or RAD3?
RAD2 is the finished pack on Forge 1.16.5 and by far the more played of the two. RAD3 is its successor on 1.20.1, still in early releases (0.23a when we counted). Pick RAD2 for a complete experience and RAD3 if your group wants the new version and does not mind changes between updates.
How much RAM does a RAD2 server need?
Our numbers are 6, 8 and 10 GB, for up to three, up to eight and up to sixteen players. A group that splits up over several dimensions should take the next row.
Does RAD2 need Java 8?
Yes. Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge 36.2.39 runs on Java 8, and the panel switches the server to it when you install the pack. RAD3 uses Java 17.
Is RAD2 good for a group?
Yes. Dungeons and bosses are easier with company, and Waystones and Claim Chunk make a shared server practical for players who want to explore apart and meet up again.
