Minecraft Server Hosting on the US West Coast
US West is the region for the Pacific side of North America, and it quietly does a second job: it is the American region that players in Japan, Australia and New Zealand can actually use. For a community that straddles the Pacific it is often the only sensible answer.
Who sits close to US (West)
California, Oregon, Washington state, Nevada, Arizona and British Columbia are all near, and the rest of the Mountain west is fine. Across the water it is the closest American region to Japan, Australia and New Zealand, which is why mixed Pacific communities end up here.
Who picks US (West)
West coast communities
If your players are in California or the Pacific Northwest, hosting them in the east means every one of them pays for a country's worth of distance all evening.
Servers with players across the Pacific
An American and Australian mix, or American and Japanese. This region is the middle ground that actually exists, and it beats picking a side.
Streamers and event servers on Pacific time
When the event is scheduled around west coast evenings, the server may as well be where the audience is.
What every plan costs in the US West
The location surcharge is already added below, and it is the same amount on every plan. It matches our central American region and is slightly under the eastern one.

When another region is the better answer
For a community that is mostly east of the Rockies, this is the wrong coast and US East or US Central is closer to more people. And if your players are genuinely in Asia rather than on the American side of the Pacific, our Japan or Singapore regions are a different league.
- US (Central), for a group spread across the country.
- Asia (Japan), for players actually in Asia.
- US (East), for the eastern half of the country.
Questions about the US West region
Is US West a good region for Asian players?
It is the best American one for them, and it is still an ocean away. If your community is mostly Asian, host in Japan or Singapore instead and let the American players cross the water.
What about Australian players?
The same answer: workable if the server is mainly American, worse than our Sydney region if it is mainly Australian.
Is it cheaper than US East?
Slightly, and nothing about what you get differs between the two.
Does the time zone matter as much as the distance?
For scheduling, more. A server whose events start at nine in the evening Pacific time is a west coast server whatever else is true of it, and it is worth putting the community and the server in the same place.
What about players in Vancouver?
British Columbia sits close to this region and it is the best of the three American ones for them by a clear margin.
US (West) among the rest
US (West) is one of the places on our locations overview, and how it fits the wider picture is on United States.
